Mother/Daughter Power :)

Yesterday was one of the worst weather days I have seen since moving to DC.  NON-STOP rain all morning and afternoon which of course led to flooding.  With my luck lately, it just figured I had 2 shoots scheduled for the afternoon- one of which could not be rescheduled as it was a friend visiting the area from Iceland!  So we decided to do it no matter what.  Just as I left the house the rain stopped and the sun even peeked out!   The rain stopped only for the duration of our shoot.  Pretty amazing.  Also amazing was shooting these 2 moms and their daughters.  It really gives me hope and inspiration that Avery will still love me when she is a teenager :)  I will have my work cut out for me in the week ahead, there are so many great images to process!  Here are some of my favorite shots of the beautiful mothers and their daughters (and for the full sneak just visit my fb fan page :)).

Photo Fun Saturday

Saturday was a day filled with photo fun!  First up, Saturday morning I got to meet with an adorable family whose little girl just turned one.  I love this age... not a baby any longer but not quite a toddler.  You can really see little their little personalities begin to emerge.  Little Miss M was all smiles but you could definitely tell when she was over it!  She didn't really smash the cake at the end but more "explored" it.  So cute!

Then Saturday afternoon we had a family photo session exchange with Photography- By Danie.  Getting everyone ready was exhausting, and all 4 kids under 4 were not in very good moods but it was totally worth it, and of course we caught some great moments.  It was a good experience to be in the client's shoes as well.  It really can be hard work to get your picture taken!

Everyone told me it would be hard...

...when they would see me tote my baby around while obviously pregnant with another.  I shrugged off the nay-sayers, they didn't know me!!!  But of course everyone can't be wrong and I am learning that more each day:)  My little blessings are 15 months apart in age and I wouldn't change a thing but it's certainly challenging many days.  So after a particularly challenging week I am taking a moment to let their father deal with them as they fight and scream while I focus and devote a blog post to captured photographic proof that there are good times too.  I need to do this for my own sanity as well as to show them someday... in case the fighting only gets worse, LOL!  I am laughing... really I am.

Aw shucks aren't they just the cutest brother and sister ever?  Good thing I'm a fast photographer able to document such fleeting moments and there is no live audio stream with these posts! :)

Getting Back to Babies!

As the weather begins to turn cooler I am reminded of my desire to get back to working in my studio.  There are still plenty of opportunities for outdoor sessions (and I am SO looking forward to all of them) but I also look forward to working with little ones in my own cozy bright space!  Today I had the absolute pleasure of doing a mini-session with this little doll.  Little Miss M is only 6 months old but already so strong as she was pulling up and crawling all over the place.   But OH those angelic big brown eyes and her sweet smile!  I had such a great time with her and her mommy!!!

The adorable headbands are from Chic Pretties and the too cute pumpkin hat and diaper cover are from  RWR Knits... Becky is currently running a promotion on the hat and diaper cover!  LOVE my baby props!

Another Special Homecoming

Today is the anniversary of 9/11 and I have the honor of blogging about another photo session I did through Operation Love Reunited.  This adorable couple were apart for nearly a year and watching their reunion was so touching.  We spent hours waiting and watching and then I looked down at my camera for a split second (no joke!) and heard her scream.  I NEARLY missed the moment they saw each other.  Thank goodness she screamed!
I hope you enjoy your preview, L family!  Doing this is my small way of saying thank you to all the men and women who serve and for all of the sacrifices they and their families make for our country.  Once again I am humbled to the core.

Operation: Love Reunited Homecoming

As many of you know, I am a photographer for the wonderful organization of OpLove.  Last night I had the amazing experience of photographing a homecoming for an amazing family.  Typically I post sneak peeks of 4-7 images but in processing this shoot I knew I had to tell the story as it unfolded in front of my lens and post as many images as I needed in order to do that.  So there is my disclaimer that this post is very heavy with pictures :)

I saw excitement, anxiety, anticipation and even boredom in the moments leading up to the ceremony ("Come ON already, I know he's here!!!") transform suddenly to awe and raw tears of happiness and relief the moment the soldiers walked through the door and they set eyes on their loved one.  All of the emotion I saw and felt coupled with physical work to keep up as they rushed to greet and hug him... I really had my work cut out for me.  At one point I dropped my camera from my eye as I became consumed with emotion but quickly snapped myself out of it so as not to miss recording one moment of this amazing reunion.  Thank you again to the B family for choosing me to photograph these memories for you.  I hope you enjoy them not only now but also in the many years to come.

Family Shoot in Charleston!

I've been vacationing with the kids all week in Seabrook, SC.   While here I had the pleasure of doing a family photo shot for a wonderful family that drove 2 1/2 hours for little old me to be their photographer!  I have to admit I was so stressed all week about the weather... you never know when it's going to storm here.  Well it turned out to be a hot afternoon of 107 degrees with the heat index but NO rain and barely a cloud in the sky!  I consider this to really be a blessing, especially considering right now it is the same time one day later and it is pouring rain and thundering.  So I am very happy to be safe and dry inside posting the sunny sneak peek of this adorable family! :)
Thanks so much to the sweet L family for coming out to see me in beautiful downtown Charleston, you guys are awesome!
